Lea Mixon

I am Lea Mixon and I am currently attending Cal State Northridge perusing my degree in communications with a minor in Africana studies. I’ve watched Wise Choices for Girls go from an idea to an actual reality while also being a part of the group. This program has shaped me into who I am today from helping me be honest with my emotions, making sure I have and continue to achieve my academic goals, and thinking critically about life situations. Our practice 24/72. 24/72 hours means to us the amount of time you give yourself to think on something you find emotional/important.

Wise Choices for Girls has also helped me build connections with girls, ladies, and women who are like minded. I have gone from being a wise girl to a wise lady with the same girls and growing together as ladies is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. The older I get the more I realize sisterhood and having a community you can be safe, vulnerable, and 100% authentic in is mandatory and wise choices for girls has given me that and so much more.

Ayana Morgan-Woodard

My journey truly started my freshmen year of high school even though I was introduced to Wise Choices For Girls in middle school. I started off as a confident on the outside, but insecure on inside type of girl. I always felt like a black swan in my school and community. Through Wise Choices for Girls I was able to connect with like minded girls that intuitively allowed me to grow in the woman I am today. As a Wise Girl I was able to discuss the problems I was facing in high school and the marathon continued as a Wise Lady while I attend Tuskegee University. As a Wise Lady I am to able to problem solve much smoothly and quicker because I gained the tools as a wise girl. My story is still on going and I want to thank the founder because she continues to believe in our story. With this group the generational cycle of girl empowerment can and will be an important step for young girls to go through before entering this world!

Destiny Buckhanan

My name is Destiny Buckhanan, I’m an upcoming junior pursuing a biology degree at Tuskegee University. I graduated from Marin Catholic High school in 2017. I joined Wise Choices for Girls when I was a freshman in high school. There I learned what it meant to chase your dreams and have a sisterhood that supports you. Through my sisters I saw the true meanings of loyalty, friendship, and respect. Everything I learned has helped me prosper in college especially playing on my collegiate softball team. I truly thank Ms. Alexis for all the time she has sacrificed to be there for us as well as encourage us. She plays an important role in my life and the woman I’m becoming.

Madeline Crawford

Hi my name is Madeline Crawford I’m an English Major at California State Northridge. I have been apart of Wise Choices for Girls for six years. Being in Wise Girls has given me the Sisterhood I never thought I needed. The endless support and love the Ms. Alexis and the girls have given me has helped me grow as a person. These girls have helped me through me worst times and celebrated with me through the best of times. I don’t know what I would have done with out them.
